At the corner of SW 1st St and S Oak Ave, one of the busiest corners of Mineral Wells, there is one building that has yet to be restored. The bottom level recently used to be Zee’s Tae Kwon Do but has sat empty for some time now. Cody Jordan with Nix Rental Homes took us on a tour of this building to show us its future potential.
The top two floors appear to be untouched and well preserved for going unused for so long. In 1924 the building was occupied by B.H. Lattner Funeral Home. Information on the history of this building is a challenge to find other than that.
Moving Forward, the property’s current owners, Nix Rental Homes, have some ideas for its future purpose as they are planning out its restoration soon. For now, they are keeping it a surprise as to what it will be but with the building being in the center of town, It’s likely to do great no matter what the future holds for this building. On the same block, they have already renovated a larger building that is now the home of The Market at 76067 and Coffee & Cocktails. We can’t wait for the restoration to begin! What do you think it will become? To our surprise, This building does not have any bats currently, unlike some of the other unoccupied buildings downtown. It appears that in all of this time unoccupied, it never has had bats in it. This is a big factor in building preservation. Here is a gallery of its current state:
