Virginia (Granny) Bell Garrett

Virginia (Granny) Bell Garrett passed away in Weatherford, Texas on Wednesday, August 18, 2021. She was born on February 24, 1936, in Santo, Texas to Robert Bosley and Emily Dennis Bosley. Virginia married Ivory Melvin Garrett on April 3, 1950, in Weatherford, TX. They were blessed with six children. Virginia and her children traveled with her husband Ivory to Libya, Africa while he was serving in the Air Force.
Virginia owned and operated Garrett Laundromat in Mineral Wells for many years. Later, Virginia began working at General Dynamics which became Lockheed Martin until she was laid off. She remained a member of their union and attended union meetings for many years after. She began working for Bell Helicopter in 1995 and remained there until she retired in 2016. Virginia’s coworkers became a second family to her and she was fondly referred to as “Granny” by her work family.
While Virginia was not your typical mother and grandmother, she was a trailblazer who taught her children and grandchildren to be hard workers, pursue their dreams and not fit into any box that others may have for them. Virginia was always seen in her blue jeans, western shirts, fanny pack, and short hair. She was an avid reader, enjoyed fishing and gardening, and loved to organize dinners for both her family and coworkers.
Virginia and her husband of 71 years, Ivory, were reunited beyond the veil on August 30, 2021. Virginia was survived by children, Kathren Stewart and husband Bobby, Victoria Nelson, Deborah Dunnigan and husband Harold, Tommy Garrett, David Garrett, Diana Davis and husband Gregory; grandchildren Matthew Thompson, Railea Sandoval and spouse Daniel, Trenton Stewart, Dr. Eric Nelson, Veronica Nelson, James Dunnigan, Kayan Dunnigan, Cooper Davis, and Riley Davis; great-grandchildren Devon Sandoval, Victoria Sandoval, Andrew Holmes, and Ethan Holmes.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, September 11, 2021, at the Mineral Wells Church of God. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to services.
