Vida Mae Word

August 15, 1931 – August 24, 2021


Vida Mae Word, 90, passed away Tuesday, August 24, 2021. She was born August 15, 1931 in Cheek, Ok to James and Mattie Mauldin Howard. Vida married Carl Word on September 21, 1949 in Ardmore, Ok. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl; her parents; brothers, Bobby Howard and J.B. Howard; sisters, Betty Potts and Charlene Howard.

Carl and Vida Word pastored Cityview either as Senior pastor or in a support role to Kay and Glenn Pierce, or Pastor Gary for almost 50 years after moving to Mineral Wells in 1961. Vida has left behind a legacy of children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren who are serving the Lord in the wake of their covering of prayer and intercession. Not to mention countless others they impacted in our community.

Survivors include her children, Gary Word and wife Kathy and Carla Pierce and husband Glenn; grandchildren, Toby (Renee)Hudnell, Amber (Chris) Snow, Chad (April) Word; great grandchildren, Caden Snow, Colin Hudnell, Zoe Snow, Brendan Hudnell, Corban Word, Aowyn Word; brothers, Ferral Howard and Wayne Howard; sisters, Queta Taylor and Barbara Butler; numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Thursday, August 26, 2021 at Cityview Community Church with visitation will be an hour prior to service. Burial will follow at Woodland Park Cemetery.
