JOB TITLE: EQUIPMENT OPERATOR

JOB SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Cemetery Department Supervisor, incumbent is responsible to lead and perform skilled maintenance work in the maintenance and repair of the public cemeteries; and to perform a variety of related maintenance duties as assigned.

- Ability to deal with people under emotional stress.
- Able to deal with and understand grief.
- Able to set up and tear down funeral set-ups.
- Ability to operate backhoe.
- Able to operate riding mowers, brush hogs.
- Able to pour and finish concrete or the ability to learn to pour and finish concrete.
- Lead and participate in cleaning and maintaining the city cemeteries.
- Haul debris and trash.
- Pick up trash and debris.
- Perform tree-trimming activities along roadways.
- Cut down dead trees and extending branches.
- Cut high weeds along roadways.
- Spray herbicides, pesticides, and fertilizers; ensure safe application of chemicals.
- Clean and maintain equipment.
- Mix materials to be used on job assigned.
- Maintain records and log of all work performed.
- Complete work orders on both private and city property.
- Responsible for the efficient and safe operation, care, and appearance of assigned equipment.
- Follows written and oral job instructions.
- Uses good judgment to work safely and use equipment properly.
- Hears clearly and interprets hand signals when working around equipment and in street and alley traffic, using proper safety precautions.
- Serve on standby crew for after hour’s emergency work as required.
- Maintain appropriate uniform appearance and personal hygiene.
- Perform preventive maintenance on vehicles and equipment.
- Work outdoors in temperatures of heat (100° +) and cold, freezing, and inclement weather.
- Exposure to noise, dust, grease, smoke, fumes, and gases.
- Stand, sit, bend, stoop, and crouch for prolonged periods.
- Carry, hold, and lift 100 pounds. Pull, push, and drag 100 pounds.
- Work overtime, holidays and weekends as required.
- Ability to drive in a safe manner.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, DEGREES, CERTIFICATES, AND/OR LICENSE:
High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
Possession of a valid Texas Drivers License and a good driving record.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Three years of increasingly responsible performing grounds maintenance activities.
Knowledge of methods and techniques general maintenance and repair activities related to the area of work assigned. Knowledge of equipment and tools used in the area of work assigned. Knowledge of the principles and practices of the techniques of grounds maintenance. Knowledge of occupational hazards and standard safety practices.
STARTING SALARY $14.71 Hour .
