Thursday, June 17th, 2021, Commander Len Wood and 1st Vice Commander/Commander of Honor Guard, James Taylor with the AMVETS Post 133 donated $750 to the Mineral Wells Little League. The donation was to help fund their summer trip to sectionals for the All-Star team. We spoke with Brent Tincher, Head Coach of the team, to find out more about how much this benefits the team.

“You have no idea what it means to us and the girls. It allows us to go to sectionals for the All-Star Team of junior lady fast-pitch softball. It’s going to be right after the Fourth of July. Of course, we’re going to have to spend a couple of days down there. That’s an expense that not everybody can incur at the last minute. So they were very nice and gave us a check for $750 to recover a lot of those expenses from a hotel standpoint, food, and things of that nature. So it takes a lot of pressure off the parents. They’ve (Post 133) always done a great job giving back. And this is just another example of what they do to help out the community. They got post the year of Texas, and this is a perfect example of why they did. So we appreciate it very much.” -Brent Tincher

Does Mineral Wells Little League still need help with funding?

“Yeah, everything helps. It’s one of those situations. Even if we go over what I think we’re going to need from a funding standpoint, Mineral Wells Little League will hold on to the funds and give out more scholarships for girls to play and boys to play in the little league next year. So it’s, it’s going to be a continuous giving, even if we do go over. But Mineral Wells Little League is just grateful. It’s been a rough year because we didn’t have the signups we typically get in the past. It was like that all across the United States, not just in Mineral Wells.” -Brent Tincher

Brent went on to tell us that the best way to show support to Mineral Wells Little League is by signing up your kids to play sports. It is a very healthy way for kids to stay athletic and stay social. But other ways to support the Little League program is donating to it just like Post 133. You can get in contact with them by going to their Facebook Page.

We asked James Taylor why they enjoy donating. “Well, we’re we are nonprofit, and we work around the year raising funds. The fun part about that is we get to give that money away. Not always is it something as fun as this where our money is needed. This is something that we really enjoy. Just like giving to Meals on Wheels and the other projects, We just enjoy giving back because when most of us got out of the military, there was nobody there giving back. So we’re just trying to fix that problem.” -James Taylor

Thank you Post 133 for everything that you all do for the community of Mineral Wells
