Some people say that your hometown makes you who you are. However, most people don’t value that statement as much as Adam Hull. It is easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of everyday life in today’s world. But our locally loved musician, Adam Hull, plans to make his musical career right here in Mineral Wells and put all his passion back into his community.

Adam was born here in 1983. He has never wanted to be anywhere else. He has come to love our crazy town more and more every day. He says, “This is my home. This is where I plan to live my life. I don’t have any plans to move away. Even when I went to Tarleton to get my Bachelor’s and a Master’s, I did it without moving. I am committed, which is important.”

Adam gained his fondness for music when he was just a young boy. He noted that his biggest influence was his father. “My dad was a big music fan. He couldn’t play the radio, but he understood music. He knew all the lyrics to all the songs, and he knew a lot of unique music trivia. So myself, my older brother, and a younger brother learned to play.” Adam and his brother Jeremy Hull still play together in their band Adam Hull & The Handsome Half-Breeds. Adam plays the guitar, Jeremy plays the bass, and their friend Joe Carpenter plays the drums. All of these gentlemen are beloved locals.

But the instrument that really caught Adam’s attention was the guitar. He tells us that he knew he wanted to play the guitar after seeing the hit movie Back to the Future; from the scene where Michael J. Fox plays the solo to “Johnny B. Goode” by artist Chuck Berry

But being a musician was not Adam’s only passion. He also loved to teach. He was a teacher for ten years after graduating college. He taught all grades; all over the area in addition to being a musician. He says “ I’m a teacher, performer, songwriter, and musician. I always try to encourage others to learn. I’m a big fan of education.”

He is currently only teaching guitar and ukulele lessons while he pursues a full-time music career. But he has never stopped giving back to the kids in this community. “I try to support the community. I’ve been hosting the Mineral Wells Idol for the past five years, which supports backpack buddies.”

Although Adam’s love for our crazy town is not the only thing that makes him special.  When Adam was a young child, his father took him to see Weird Al Yankovic, which inspired his creativity.

When asked to describe his music he said, “Most of my stuff is kind of weird,”… “’I’m quirky. When I write all over the place. I can have one country song. One might be an alternative rock song. Or of the songs could be a silly sort of song. Then I’ll have a song be very serious. I’m kind of quirky and all over the place.” A good example of his originality was when Adam got his first big break with a song titled Cynthia Izaguirre. This is an eccentric love song about a news anchor on WFAA 8 ABC.

Adam is currently working on a single called, Crazy in a Crazy Town which is an autobiographical story of his life here in Mineral Wells. He is putting all his energy into making this single a hit. He says, “I want to do it right. I’m in this for the long haul. I don’t want to just put all my good stuff out there at once. I have some things I’m sitting on. Some ideas I want to distribute. But I feel like the singles are the way to go.” He is currently working with Producer, Taylor Tatsch, to make this piece perfect. He hopes to have this recorded and ready for the public by the end of summer 2021.

The reason this piece is so important to Adam is not only because it is autobiographical, but also because it describes some very personal aspects of himself. He discloses, “I like to promote positivity as much as I can. I just want to be fully open. Mental illness is something that I try to champion for everyone.” He wants to bring a positive light on all aspects that might be difficult.

Mineral Wells has a rare gem that is Adam Hull. Our community has an artist and a teacher that has invested himself into his hometown. He notes that he has always seen the potential here and can’t wait to see what the future holds. “I was born and raised here. I think there’s something special about this town. And it’s exciting to finally see other people seeing it too.”

You can see Adam Hull with his band (Adam Hull & the Handsome Half-breeds) live this weekend June 26th, 2021. He will be playing at the Summer Fest II located at Star of the River Ranch in Santo, TX. For more information on Adam and his music visit his Facebook page.
