“Bicycle, Bicycle, Bicycle! I want to ride my bi…” wait, can this get claimed just for me quoting it? I better move on. Bikes! Our very own specialty bike shop is that much closer to opening. The Goodday team went to pay another visit to Mr. Joe Russell as he supervised the installation of the shop’s sign. Flying Tire Bicycles done up pretty in white lettering over a blue and yellow color scheme. Settled next to the Giant name representing Flying Tire’s partner store, Giant Bicycles. The older style for the sign combined with newer LED lights, fashioned to look like classic neon, makes for a striking image when driving north on 281 now. The sign seemed to draw the eye of local owners from across the street as well as passersby.

Joe was welcoming and excited to talk about the layout of the shop, showing us a beautiful render of the intended look. Displaying a row of bicycles facing the windows, lined up to greet the people on the street. He was happy to update us on the old brickwork that they were able to maintain. The only regret he had for the whole of the build to this point was toward the floor. The old floor, though nice, had seen too many hills and valleys to be used as is. This didn’t seem to be weighing down Joe’s excitement though. A simple description of the floating floor they would use to remedy the build, and he was on to his plans for the town.

Mr. Russell was candid in his want for the city to consider building up new bike paths and share lanes. He talked to us about the work he is putting in with some other local business owners to build new bike trails through our gorgeous countryside. Then adding to his wish for the city to see the tremendous value in connecting all the paths, new and old. Remarking how when he looked at the infrastructure that was here, and adding what he was willing to build, he couldn’t see anything other than guaranteed growth.

That seemed like the best note to end on while we watched the sign go up. The work was quick and professional and by the time lunch wrapped, the sign was in place. It’s blue popping against the recently painted brick and mortar. Another simple, but important, reminder that the growth that Mr. Russell spoke on is real and coming. We at Goodday are looking forward to the store opening. Joe and his son Austin (who will be running the MW branch of Flying Tire) have a clear vision and more than enough experience to bring us a top shelf, high quality product. My family will be there looking for a nice ride at the first opportunity, and I wish good luck and fortune to the Russell family.

As for ya’ll, what’s your speed? Lowrider? Competitive? Mountain? Exercise? Be sure to let us know what you’re looking forward to!

See you on the trails!
