The morning of March 19th started with giggles and cheers from the students at Community Christian School. The staff of CCS had taken to dressing up to help inspire their students to read. Engaging their charges with costumes based on Peter Pan, the faculty spent the day on their annual Reading Comes Alive event. With the staff taking time to discuss the incredible importance behind being well read, and excitedly narrating stories to the students. Everyone working to encourage the kids to spend time at home with books in hand, instead of phones or tablets. Drawing the attention of a few local names and featuring Mineral Wells Mayor Regan Johnson as a guest reader earlier that morning.
This one-day initiative is spearheaded by the schools’ Administrator Douglas Jefferson, a gentleman who is driven to provide a competent Christian Curriculum for the folks in our area. Goodday had just arrived as Jefferson, quite literally, sprang into action! “En Garde Captain Hook!” He shouted, leaping into the scene from his office! Quickly dispatching his foe with his eager audience helping to fill in the story! Douglas turned to the children at the end and emphasized how reading and imagination go hand in hand. How all experiences can be used to grow and learn, using the origin of the story of Peter Pan as an allegory.

Mr. Jefferson spoke to all of us about the importance of reading and engaging with a variety of material. Telling us how it creates a thirst for knowledge that helps us all to make informed choices. After the kids had been taken back to their lessons, Douglas rounded out our chat with his want for his students to be able to think for themselves. Ending with their efforts to reinforce this knowledge through their dual credit courses; where essay writing helps to demonstrate retention and better prepare the students for college.

Our time with them made clear that this is a group of people who will go the extra mile for their kids. Standing as a community that works diligently to create resources, open doors, and break ground for those in their care. As they pray for their students and support them in their futures, we pray for CCS’s continued success and passion. We at Goodday believe the days ahead are bright for these Warriors!
