On Monday night in the buzzing gym of Covenant Classical Academy in Fort Worth, the Lady Warriors of CCS took another win and snagged a spot in the TCAF State Finals for the second year in a row. There was a bump in the road however, with junior defensive leader Jersey Davila going down in the 3rd quarter with a knee injury. She was carried off the court but stayed on the bench to cheer her team to victory. In the 4th quarter, spirits were raised back up when senior post Lani Buchanan scored her 1000th career point. This is Buchanan’s second “1000” mark this season. She reached her 1000 rebound milestone earlier this year, a goal she set for herself as an 8th grader. She was all smiles with a few tears as she celebrated this personal accomplishment with her team. Everybody was celebrating the team victory and the team’s hard earned spot in the final. Buchanan, Davila and the rest of the Lady Warriors take the court for the final time on Friday, at 1:30 for the TCAF State Championship.

The Warriors followed their female counterparts Tuesday night on the same court, with hopes of landing their own spot in the boys state title game. Unfortunately they fell short after a sharp shooting Harvest Christian Academy team took control of the game in the second quarter as the Warriors went cold and couldn’t answer. Despite the loss the young men will still play for some hardware. They will play for 3rd place on Saturday, 12 noon just before the Lady Warriors take the court in the championship game.
