Press Release: MW Police Chief, Dean Sullivan
MINERAL WELLS, TEXAS – On February 26, 2021, at approximate 6:20 AM, Mineral Wells Police received a call from a motorist repo11ing a small child walking along the roadway at 200 SW 5th Avenue, near downtown. The motorist advised the child was walking by the street, unaccompanied by anyone, and expressed concern for the child’s safety. Officers responded and met with the motorist who had located the child.
The child was described as a male, approximately 3-4 years of age, wea1ing at-shirt, sweatpants, and socks, but no shoes. The child appeared to be in good health, but was unable to tell officers his name, a location where he lived, or any other information that could assist with locating his parents. Officers began a canvass of the immediate area, going door-to-door, in an attempt to locate the parents or relatives of the child.
At approximately 9: 10 AM, the search area was expanded and additional resot1rces joined in to assist with the search. While going door-to-door, investigators stopped at a residence, some 4 blocks north of the location where the child was found, where they located the child’s father. The father claimed he was unaware the child had left the residence and told investigators the child was 4 years old. The child’s mother was later contacted at work and she too was unaware of the child’s disappearance.
Both parents have been interviewed by investigators and are cooperating with the investigation. The child has been assessed by Child Protective Services and should be reunited with the parents soon. After researching all pa11ies involved, this appears to be an isolated incident and no criminal charges are anticipated at this time. Both parents have agreed to install better locking mechanisms on their home’s doors.
