A message from W. Douglas Jefferson,

CCS Family,

Our community is still struggling to get back to normal.  Many are still without power and may remain that way for another day or so.

My family and a few others are still displaced.

Our CCS family has been so incredible.  Many acts of kindness have happened between families such as sharing firewood, giving food/ water and even the opening of homes.

During this time, we saw how important instilling faith in God into our children is for such times.  Our daughters quoted scripture, prayed, and continue to even tell us all is ok because God’s got us.  I have heard numerous stories of our students encouraging others.  I received text messages from high school students about how God was protecting us all.

The moment CCS families found out we are displaced; we have been covered up with encouragement and people seeing what they can do to help.  Some brought us supplies and food.  Others just came to visit us, which our girls needed.  We have heard so many similar stories.

Faith and family have been so important this week.  They have been what we lean on when we lose things, we took for granted.

With the struggles still happening, we feel it is best CANCEL school the rest of the week.  We understand that other schools may go back Friday.  Academically we feel nothing meaningful can be achieved.  In addition, many of our families, including mine still need to get back to normalcy.

Instead, we need to take back February 26th as a school day.

We will only go half a day on the 26th and give our families that afternoon off.  The day remains a P/T Conference Day so teachers will be available to take calls.  Feel free to schedule a conference that day.

If you already have plans the 26th, we understand.  Simply use a pre- arranged absence.

Making up the one day will appease our guidelines but more important to us is curriculum being covered.  This Friday we will meet as a staff to review where we are and what we need to do to move forward.  We want to ensure that we cover everything necessary for moving on to the next grade or for graduation.

We have a great school with great families.  As we return to normal, let us not forget we are all here for one another.  And let us not forget the importance of our faith in Jesus Christ as both Lord and Savior.

For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

2 Timothy 1:7

In short…

Take care of your families.  Spend the rest of the week appreciating each other and your faith.

We will return to school Monday and then have a 5-school day week with Friday as a half day.

God Bless you and your families.
