January 5th, 2021, the owner of Flying Tire Bicycles, Joe Russell, met with Randy Nix to sign the papers on the building that sits at the intersection of NE 2nd Ave and N Oak Ave. Joe was excited to purchase this property and has many things in store for its future.
To start, Joe plans to have their newest location open in March of 2021. The bicycle shop will utilize the first floor. Depending on how things look under the drywall on the first floor, he hopes to expose the original brickwork to give it more character. Before they had chosen their new location, they knew it would be in Mineral Wells. They wrapped the company van showing it back in December.
In October, the company announced they were opening a Mineral Wells location, and initially, they had their eyes on a retail space in The Crazy Water Hotel. The new site that Flying Tire is opening is a Giant Bicycles Partner store. Joe stated that the renovations that Giant wanted to make in The Crazy Water Hotel were not able to get approved by the Historical Society.
Joe plans on putting in new windows on the top floors and giving them a purpose as well. The second floor will be renovated to become a retail/office space projected to be available for lease before the end of the year. The third floor will be a 1,200ft² downtown living space for lease with possible rooftop access. Joe plans on making the upper floors luxury/classy spaces.
More businesses are opening in Mineral Wells as the town continues to get more people moving here from out of town. All good news for the future of Mineral Wells.
