There was a lot of activity at the Crazy Water Hotel this morning. Workers and crane operators braved the cold to get started removing old elevators and install new ones. The old equipment, which dates to the early 20s when the hotel was built, had to be taken out in pieces due to its size.
Workers could be seen yesterday removing tiles and cutting a hole through the roof to accommodate the task. The crane had to stretch over 100 ft from the street in front of the building, over the lobby and thru the hole on the opposite side of the central tower.
It took quite a few crane loads to remove the old equipment and dumpsters full of debris. The antique elevator parts, some cut apart, looked like a nice collection of mechanical art!
Late morning the new equipment arrived and was hauled into place in the afternoon once all the old had been cleared away. It is considerably smaller than the original!
