Due to COVID-19, girls’ night may be a thing of the past for 2020. But that doesn’t mean that the fun is over. Twenty-four-year-old young mother, Byanca Acosta is bringing girls night out to women from all over Mineral Wells daily. She has created a sensational Facebook group called “MW Boozed Babes.”
Acosta was born and raised here in Mineral Wells. She felt herself being left out from the rest of the world because of COVID. There were a lot of other Facebook groups from larger cities, but nothing for our community. It was common for her to see other boozed groups for the metroplex. So, she created “MW Boozed Babes” just for ladies living in Mineral Wells. Byanca notes, “It was all towns in Texas and I thought to myself ‘why not make one local?’ Especially with COVID, everyone is stuck at home and who doesn’t love a nice, little gesture?!”
MW Boozed Babes is a group just for the ladies of Mineral Wells to give back to one another without having to worry about going out. The idea is to surprise a lucky lady with a gift on their doorstep. Within this gift, there would be a card from the ‘boozer,’ a token of alcohol such as a wine cooler, a few beers, or a shot. However, it’s not just alcohol that is given because not everyone drinks. There are additional gifts with it such as candy, snacks, soft socks, candles, or facemasks.
From the first day Acosta began the group, she had over 600 people join. She quickly realized that this group was going to be booming. “I was caught off guard,” she said.
Acosta and her other admin, Jaclyn González, started to respond to the group’s needs. To really help the group get the gist of how the group is run, Acosta began boozing others immediately. It made a big response with the public because she noted that ladies were boozing other people on the page by the next day!
When an individual gets “boozed” they are to post pictures of what they received. Then they pay it forward by boozing someone else at random within the group. The participants will then post their likes with their address in the comments. Shortly after, the new boozer picks from that lineup of comments to deliver a gift to someone else. Most important, there are rules within this group to ensure participants’ safety. All members are females living within the Mineral Wells community. It is a closed group and all members must be at least twenty-one to be added into the group.
The group’s activity has been constant. The group now has over 1,000 members with more being added daily. It has been inspiring to see these ladies work together to make each other feel special. It is not only showing love, but building new bonding friendships as well. Acosta says, “I love the interaction with people. I love talking to everyone and getting to know them.”
“I think this is something that would be fun and bring the women of the community together and give us a chance to meet new people here local!”
Acosta wishes to note tha the group is not just a door dash. There are also rewards for paying it forward:
“We do have monthly giveaways and we do have options for people that are in there and are pregnant or don’t drink. We give them snacks, their favorite drink, or something just simple to brighten their day!”
Acosta believes these small acts of kindness are making a difference for women all over the community by making them feel special during this time of distance whether they are a stay-at-home mom, on bed rest, working, a constant soccer mom, an empty nester, or just a lovely lady living in Mineral Wells.
“I see it affecting the public in a better way. Mineral Wells is a small town that I have always loved. I love the interaction with people and I love talking to everyone and getting to know them.”
Local bars and hangout spots may have a run for their money when COVID-19 is over thanks to the ladies of Mineral Wells. Acosta has high wishes for this group:
“I hope BOOZED BABES goes much further! In the future, I want every woman in that group to feel loved and open to their own opinion ALWAYS and we do have a little inside goal: we do have bigger plans in the works for this like getting together for lunch, dinner, or even a ladies’ night out!”
