The long-gone Hexagon House of Mineral Wells has been well-known by locals, but, since its removal in the late 1950s, how many know where it actually used to be? The Historical Mineral Wells Foundation wanted to ensure that the unique structure from once upon a time wouldn’t be forgotten.
Placed on the corner of NW 6th ST and NW 1st AVE, The Historical Mineral Wells Foundation has placed a sign to remind people as they pass by that this was where The Hexagon House once stood.
With proper funding, the long term goal is to have many more of these placed throughout Mineral Wells showing other pieces of forgotten history. This could one day invite the chance for taking a historical walk in the downtown area with a nice bit of history at every stop.
“Historical Mineral Wells Foundation is a 501c(3), all volunteer board dedicated to the preservation and promotion of the history of Mineral Wells. In its 35 year history it has saved or renovated several historical structures. The foundation built the Poston’s parking lot, the 76067 park/parking lot, and completed the cement portion of Zappe Park. It presently has reprinted two “out of print” local history books and originally published a “History of Mineral Wells, Texas from 1878 to 1935″, all with permission of the author’s heir. The foundation has maintained for 15 years the small museum located in the Poston’s building and is presently developing plans to relocate the museum to another location in the downtown area within six months.”
