Sadie Bates Martin
June 30, 1930 – October 13, 2020

Sadie Bates Martin passed in peace Tuesday, October 13, 2020 at the age of 90 in the care and loving community of Weatherford Healthcare and Hospice.

She was born June 30th, 1930 to Gladys and Earl Flippin in Dumont, Texas. She learned the value of hard work and determination when at the age of nine she received her first towsack for pulling bolls (picking cotton). She worked tirelessly side-by-side with sister Wilona in the cotton fields because they were “daddy’s boys”. She graduated high school at the age of 15 with high honors. She married Joe O. Martin on June 30, 1947. They were married 50 years and had six children, Ann, Joe T, Peg, Raye, Michael and Vanessa. One of Sadie’s favorite pastimes was to brag about her 15 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Sadie was strong in her faith and as a long-time member of the First Christian Church Mineral Wells she served on numerous church committees. She was an active member and served as president of the Mineral Wells Women’s Club, Zontians, and MW Downtown Merchants Association. Sadie was an avid crafter and quite famous for her sock monkey creations, making one for everyone she knew young and old alike!

Sadie will be remembered for her quick wit and long list of ever-changing rules. She loved her Texas Rangers, cheering on her tennis favorites and “grubbing” around in her yard.

She is survived by her sisters, Wilona Park of Arlington, TX and Boydine Jamison of Miriam Woods, MO; brother, Wayne Flippin and “Brother” Claude Graham Adams of Cedar Hill; daughter, Ann Parr (Jack) of Mineral Wells; son, Joe T Martin of Glen Rose; daughter, Peg Hiller (Gary) of Mineral Wells; daughter, Raye Kearby (Michael) of Llano; son, Michael Martin (Amy) of Franklin, Tennessee; daughter, Vanessa Sherman of Whitewright; 14 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

Sadie believed without a doubt that Jesus Christ was her Savior and passed peacefully and gracefully into his arms on that faith.
