Jean “Janice” Southern
May 16, 1951 – October 6, 2020

Janice (Jean Baillie) Southern was embraced by the loving arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on October 6, 2020. Janice was born May 16, 1951 in Kennoway, Fife, Scotland, to John Baillie and Jean Cunningham Baillie, who both preceded her in death. Janice is survived by her husband of 44 years, Michael Southern, of Mineral Wells, and daughter Kylie Brock, and granddaughters Baillie Jean and Chloe Reneé, of Mineral Wells, and son Jamie Southern and wife Megan, and grandsons Grayson and Jonah, of Fort Worth. She also leaves behind her brother, Bill Baillie, and wife Charlotte, sisters Marion Inglis and husband Thomas, and May Robertson, all of Kennoway, together with many nieces and nephews, and their children, in Scotland. In Texas, she has many brother-and sister-in-laws, and many more nieces and nephews, and their children. She is survived by a host of friends around the world! Janice moved to Texas in 1973, after completing her nursing training in Scotland, and has devoted a lifetime of service to others in her capacity as a Registered Nurse, and as a midwife, childbirth educator, and lactation consultant. She loved her roles as soccer mom to her children and grandchildren, and as host mom to foreign exchange students. She enjoyed sharing her Scottish heritage with others, but her chief pleasure in life, other than family, was sharing her love of Jesus with others! Early in her Christian life, Janice consecrated her life to Christ and the church, and she honored that commitment to her dying breath. She loved to call upon the name of Jesus! Her last words were “Lord Jesus!” There will be a time of visitation this evening at Baum-Carlock-Bumgardner funeral home from 6-8pm. A memorial service will be celebrated at Southside Church of Christ at 4pm on Saturday, October 10, 2020, followed by a graveside service at Sturdivant Cemetery. Friends and family are welcome to a time of refreshments at the church fellowship hall at 3pm preceding the service.
