Friday night lights in Texas is a world all it’s own, but even deeper than that is 6-man football in Texas. This week the 4-1Gordon Longhorns took on the 3-0 Evant Elks in the final game of non-conference play. Gordon came out strong and took the lead early dominating the offensive side of the ball giving hope to Palo Pinto county that the Elks wouldn’t be undefeated for much longer. But soon after halftime the tides turned and Evant came to life. Coming in to the 3rd quarter down 14 points, Evant held the ‘Horns to only 8 points, while scoring 30 putting them ahead 8 points leading into the 4th. Gordon just couldn’t find their rhythm the 4th quarter and gave up another 12 points to end the game 52-72. Despite the final score, Gordon had some great moments, a strong offense lead by RB Hoss Rouse who finished with 3 TD’s, 175 rushing yards, QB Morgan Mahan who threw for 3 TD’s, and WR Gage Erwin with 4 receptions for 87 yards and 2 TD’s. On the defensive side of the ball, was more great plays by Rouse, with 2.5 tackles and an interception, as well as Clay Berry with 7.5 tackles and a sack on the night and Mahan with 8 tackles. Gordon will return to the field this Friday to take on the Bluff Dale Bobcats with fresh 0-0 records as we begin conference play. Kick-off in Gordon is at 7:30 pm.
