A seven-week public exhibit is taking place at three different locations within Downtown Mineral Wells. About two and a half years ago, local business owner David Adams needed to get the stained glass windows to his house fixed. After a few repairs, he took to teaching himself how to make stained glass as a hobby. Most of the stained glass he has created over the years has been inspired by album covers and gig posters from a Chicago based band, WILCO, but the collection of 11 stained glass pieces that will be displayed revolve around the architecture and landscapes of Mineral Wells.
Yesterday David started placing his pieces in the front windows of the old Poston Dry Goods Co. building to be viewable from the sidewalk of US-281. The location can be found here. Today is the first day they are on display (09/04/2020), and they will be at this location for the next three weeks. The most magical time to see them is between 8 pm-1 am when they are backlit, showing the vibrant colors of the glass the best. More information about the pieces is provided at the exhibit.
“I put what I see.. I try to add it with glass.”
David Adams
When he isn’t busy with running his business, Adams Fashion Optical, David goes to the back office where he has conveniently placed his stained glass studio. Most of his personal collection can be seen in his office.
All of the stained glass he has publicly displayed at Poston’s are well detailed. A monitor with time-lapse videos of David creating the stained glass pieces will be added to the exhibit as well. After three weeks, they will be moved to be shown in the windows of The Market at 76067. They will be there from 09/25/2020 till 10/16/2020, and then they will move to the last location, The Famous Water Co. building. They will be at The Famous Water Co. building for one week. After that, the public exhibit will be over.
We believe local art is important and we encourage everyone to check out these one of a kind stained glass pieces while they are viewable to the public. After the exhibit, the pieces will be for sale by David. If you are interested in seeing more of his work or messeging him about a purchase, you can contact him on his facebook page.
