After a long and successful life, Yvonne Marie “Bonnie” O’Quin, age 95, passed away peacefully of natural causes on September 20, 2020. Born in Lansford, North Dakota, Bonnie and her family relocated to Texas when she was in high school. She received her ADN Degree from Parkland Hospital School of Nursing. While working as a nurse at Parkland, she met the love of her life, Dr. William A. “Bill” O’Quin. They were married shortly after that, and were seldom apart, until his death 57 years later.
The O’Quins moved to Mineral Wells in the early 1950s, where Dr. O’Quin set up medical practice. The two were active in the medical community, church, social events, and numerous civic, community, and philanthropic activities. In addition to raising her family, Bonnie served as a Charter member of the Women’s Auxiliary for Palo Pinto General Hospital, member of the First Baptist Church of Mineral Wells, where she taught Sunday School for many years, and as a long-time member of the Women’s Club and the Wednesday Bible Club. She also served as a volunteer providing immunizations and healthcare for the needy. Bonnie was known as an avid antique rose fancier, bridge player, and a tireless worker who could “hold her own” on the O’Quin Farm.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond Karl Baggenstoss and Corinne Baggenstoss Elkins, her husband, Bill O’Quin, her sisters, Joan Blair and Nina Calvert, and son-in-law, Tim Rice. She is survived by her three children, Marvene O’Quin Eastham (husband, James), Susan O’Quin Rice, and William J. “Bill” O’Quin (wife, Cheryl), her niece, Bonnie Rae Yates (husband, Chuck), seven grandchildren, James Eastham, Jr., Laura Eastham Steele, Jessica Rice Jones, Matt Rice, Katherine Eastham Villaronga, Jake O’Quin, and Samantha O’Quin Casperite, and numerous great-grandchildren, who became the center of her life, and whom she loved dearly.
The family wishes to thank the kind and caring staff at College Park Rehab and Care Center in Weatherford, and Lakewell Place Senior Living in Mineral Wells. A special appreciation is extended to Mynitta Stinson, Janie Decker and Tina Nunn as special caregivers to Bonnie.
