MINERAL WELLS, TX – Rep. Drew Springer held an open community forum on September 12th, 2020 at the Crazy Water Hotel. Currently serving as the Texas Representative for House District 68, Rep. Drew Springer threw his name in the race for the Senate District 30 seat after Governor Abbott’s call for a special election. With eight years of experience, Rep. Springer is determined that he can make positive changes for the betterment of rural Texas. At the Mineral Wells open community forum, Rep. Springer stated several goals and recent achievements while answering questions from citizens.
Rep. Springer has received many endorsements including a recent endorsement from Representative-Elect Dr. Glenn Rogers. One of his supporters in the forum spoke of Rep. Springer’s dependability, stating to the audience “He has been there [attended several meetings within rural communities] 90% of the time . . . you will see him, I promise.”
“I have always made it my goal to understand rural issues, rural agriculture, rural economic development . . . That’s why I love this building because it is a representation of economic development.”
Rep. Springer listed several of the core values and movements that he stands for including Christian values, a dedication to the pro-life movement, support of small businesses, voting on historical tax credits, economic development, proper legislation regarding water, broadband availability within the entire state, decreased property taxes, and support of rural school systems. Most of all, Rep. Springer discussed his plans to address re-opening Texas:
“We will address the Governor’s executive orders on the declaration of disaster. We need to open Texas up.”
A retired educator within the audience spoke with Rep. Springer about the importance of re-opening schools, the controversy surrounding masks and having small children wear masks, and the boundaries faced by veterans following the Governor’s declaration of disaster.
“I’m associated with military organizations and their stuff is closed. I think people have got to look at these rules and policies and see what they are doing.”
Due to Governor Abbott’s declaration, several Veterans of Foreign War posts have fallen under the same restrictions as bars. Even if alcohol is not served on the properties, VFW has been unable to open its doors and could possibly need to close their doors permanently due to lack of funding.
Rep. Springer acknowledged this among many key issues surrounding the Governor’s declaration. One of his first acts upon entering office, if elected, on January 12th, 2021 would be to address re-opening Texas and to find solutions to many of the problematic consequences that have occurred since the initial declaration.
Rep. Springer also spoke of a “4.6 billion dollar shortfall” referencing the recent impact of COVID-19 on the Texas Economic Stabilization Fund.
“I try to fix things that are broken, not just put down more rules and regulations . . . We are the grease that keeps the wheels of state government going.”
District 30 of the Texas Senate currently serves all of Archer, Clay, Cooke, Erath, Grayson, Jack, Montague, Palo Pinto, Parker, Wichita, Wise, Young, portions of Collin, and Denton counties of Texas. Five Republicans including Shelley Luther of Dallas (a Dallas salon owner), Denton Mayor Cris Watts, Craig Carter of Noconoa, Andy Hopper of Decatur, and Rep. Drew Springer are in the running for SD 30. One Democrat is also in the running: Jacob Minter, Anna, TX.
Citizens are encouraged to vote in the upcoming Palo Pinto County Special Election. For further information and poll locations/times, click here.
