Rubye Doris Holliman, 85, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away Thursday, August 13, 2020 in a local care center.
Graveside Service: 10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 20, 2020 at Woodland Park Cemetery, Mineral Wells.
Visitation: Mrs. Holliman will be Lying in State from 12:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 19, 2020 in White’s Mineral Wells Chapel, 101 N. E. 4th Avenue, Mineral Wells 76067.
Visitation with the family will be from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at White’s Funeral Home, Mineral Wells.
Rubye was born September 2, 1934 in Navarro County, daughter of Dan Oliver Sutton & Lettie Mable Smith Sutton. She graduated from Dunbar High School on May 20, 1952 and from Prairie View A & M University on May 20, 1956 with Bachelor’s Degrees in Business and Elementary Education. Rubye taught in the Mineral Wells ISD for 31 years. She met the love of her life, Clarence Holliman, and they married on March 26, 1960, and spent 60 happy years together.
Rubye was the First Lady and a faithful member of Bethel Baptist Church in Breckenridge. She was very active in her community, serving on the Mineral Wells School Board for 17 years and as a member of the Dunbar Neighborhood Council. Rubye was also a member of the AB Dement Civic Club.
Her faith, followed by her family were the most important parts of her life. They were her greatest treasures and blessings.
Rubye was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Annie Pearl Cade; and brother, Dan Sutton, Jr.
Survivors: Husband of 60 years, Clarence Holliman; children, La Tressia Wilmer and husband, Archie Wilmer, III, William Clarence Holliman, and Glenn K. Holliman and wife, Pamela; nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; sisters, Betty Summerfield and Ethel Young; as well as many extended family members and countless friends.
The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to Vida Ray, Mildred Bass, and April Dotie, for their loving care of Rubye during her time of illness.
