Strawn: Jimmy Guest on Friday, July 31st, was called to his heavenly home. Service arrangements are as follows: Visitation will be held Tuesday, August 4th, from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Strawn. The funeral will take place on Wednesday, August 5th at 10:00 A.M. at the Guest Chapel, with graveside service at Mt. Marion Cemetery in Strawn.
Jimmy was born January 11, 1947 in Strawn Hospital to J.E. Guest and Opal Hodgkins Guest. He graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in Dallas and attended Arlington State College before starting a life as a machinist. He, along with Bill “Red” Miller, would start S&S Machine from Bill’s garage. S&S would later move to its current location in Irving, TX where it continues to thrive under the leadership of Michael Guest. On February 14, 1998, Jimmy would marry the love of his life, Jerri Lynn Wharton. They made their home on the Guest Ranch, north of Strawn. He and Jerri developed an extensive horse training facility, owning many champion cutting horses and race horses. Several years later, they, along with the tireless work of his ranch foreman and trusted friend, David Blessing, Guest Exotic Hunting was founded, offering private hunting experiences and animal viewing tours. Jimmy and Jerri utilized the ranch and horse facilities to host several charitable events, raising large donations for Juvenile Diabetes, Multiple Sclerosis, Wounded Warriors, and many others. Jimmy was an avid supporter of the Strawn Greyhounds. Coach Lee along with the basketball and football teams were very special to him as he attended almost every game. Jimmy had a great passion for hunting, fishing, and playing cards. Whether poker or gin, he was ready to play. You could always find Jimmy with Coppy and Buddy for their Friday night ride arounds that always ended at BJ’s Pizza to meet up with their wives for great food, good conversations, and lots of laughter. Jimmy was a very loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Nothing made him happier than having large gatherings with family and friends and their kids running around the pool. Jimmy was a great man who was loved, and will be missed, by many.
Jimmy was a member of Tannehill NO. 52, Masonic Lodge AF&AM, Dallas, Grand Royal Arch Chapter, Dallas, Grand Council and Select Masters of Texas, A Knights Templar, Dallas, Life sponsor of Knights Templar Eye Foundation, Inc. The Scottish Rite of Freemasonry and DeLeon Chapter #693 Order of the Eastern Star formerly of Strawn. Jimmy and Jerri loved attending worship services at Trinity Baptist Church in Strawn.
Jimmy is survived by his wife Jerri Lynn Guest, daughters Diana Smith and husband David, Dawn Howard and husband Gregg, and step daughter Cassie Moody. Grandchildren Jason Rogers, Tyler Foreman, Natalie Foreman. Great grandchildren Chloe Foreman, Keegan Foreman, and Sophie Espinoza.
Jimmy is preceded in death by his parents J.E. and Opal Guest, and a sister Sharon Meggs.
