When reviewing the reported case numbers for COVID-19 across counties in Texas, the data varies dependent on the source – this is true. Many individuals are wondering why the numbers reported differ. There are a few explanations to this statement. Let’s explain:
Per Palo Pinto General Hospital CEO, Ross Korkmas:
“Because we know immediately when a positive or negative result comes in. Once we receive the result, we notify the patient and the State. The State reporting will always be behind us as it takes a little while for them to update the system. With the huge increase in cases, I am sure they are working as fast as they can.”
As of today, 07/03/2020 at 17:35, we can see the following is reported from the City of Mineral Wells and Palo Pinto General Hospital:
- Active: 46
- Fatalities: 2
- Recoveries: 12

- Total tested at PPGH: 1109
- Negative reported to PPGH: 845
- Pending for PPGH: 201
- Total positive in Palo Pinto County: 60

However, the counts are different when looking at the Texas Department of State Health Services resource at: https://www.dshs.texas.gov/coronavirus/cases.aspx
As of right now, the counts for Palo Pinto County are as follows from TX DSHS:
- Cases by county: 34
- Fatalities by county: 2
- Recoveries by county: 12
- Active cases by county: 11
At the end of this dashboard, it is important to note the following statements from TX DSHS:
“Case and fatality information is updated daily at 4pm and is compiled from information reported publicly by local health departments and through the DSHS public health regions. Counts are current as of that morning.”
“Because some jurisdictions report cases later in the day, local numbers may be more up to date. County case numbers may occasionally go down if the case investigation determines the person is a resident of another county or state.”
Due to the above, you will see that Goodday Mineral Wells provides case counts as reported by the City of Mineral Wells and Palo Pinto General Hospital, as these sources are more local and up-to-date.
