Remember when the favorite fast food chain of Texas was sold to Chicago in 2019? For those of you who don’t, here’s a refresher from a year ago:
“An investment firm based in Chicago with the name BDT Capital Partners announced last week that it was acquiring a majority stake in Whataburger, the family-owned, 24-hour, orange-and-white-themed regional fast-food chain founded and celebrated in Texas.”

In 2020, we have seen a lot of unfortunate things, but, as Texans, this adaption to the less than authentic new trend we are seeing in corporate architecture makes you just want to say, “WHATAWHAT??”
“More restaurants will feature elements of this new look soon. The remodels will vary based on the needs of each location, ranging from kitchen and exterior upgrades in some restaurants to major updates in others. What’s not changing? The iconic elements we’re known for. You’ll see plenty of orange and white stripes and that classic Whataburger flair our Family Members and guests know and love.”

One of the things I personally loved other than the Sweet & Spicy Bacon Burger was the iconic arch. Unfortunately, with these new designs, it appears that the arch and many other icons will be lost. Now more than ever, commercial buildings are losing their style as they get upgraded and, for someone like myself who enjoys great architecture, that is just sad.
In Mineral Wells, the Whataburger has continued in full swing since the change in management in 2019. Currently, it is unknown if or when the Mineral Wells’ Whataburger will be changed by this new architectural design. Although many renovations continue to occur in Mineral Wells, I do have concerns as to how this particular change will look in comparison…
On a good side note, Whataburger is expecting to open up fifteen new locations this year and twenty-five more locations in 2021.
Do you like the new designs?
