PRESS RELEASE | Goodday Mineral Wells | 11/4/2020 | Elections | Texas Government
MINERAL WELLS, TX – Dr. Glenn Rogers has officially been elected as Texas House District 60 State Representative. Rogers won a heated runoff primary election in July but faced no Democrat challenger in yesterday’s election.
“Though yesterday’s election was a formality, I continue to be humbled by the support of the people of District 60 who have chosen me as their representative in the upcoming state legislative session,” Rogers said. “My campaign was centered on fighting for rural Texas and I am ready to get to work.”
Rogers will go to Austin as a member of a legislature that must immediately address the COVID-19 pandemic and the budget shortfall created by it.
“I campaigned on three things important to rural Texas: working to address issues in our education system, identifying ways to offer innovative healthcare solutions to our rural communities, and to bring jobs back to these communities,” said Rogers. “The COVID pandemic has made all three of these issues even more pressing. Since the runoff, I have traveled across the district speaking with everyday citizens, business owners, and elected officials. It is very clear that this pandemic has impacted every aspect of our lives, and the legislature must take action to do what is necessary to move our state forward,” he continued.
Rogers also noted the climate surrounding the national elections. “I think everyone voted yesterday hoping we would know who won the presidency,” Rogers said. “With a handful of states still counting ballots this morning, it looks like it might be longer than expected before we find out. I pray that this process will be completed quickly so that our country can move forward.”
The 87th Texas Legislature will convene on January 12, 2021.
