September 27, 1924 – June 28, 2020

Mrs. Eva May Reed departed this life on June 28, 2020. She was born in Salt Lake City, Utah to Mr. James Williams Sr. and Mrs. Hattie May Towns Williams on September 27, 1924.

There will be a viewing July 04, 2020 from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., at Baum-Carlock-Bumgardner Funeral Home. Departing service is 2 p.m. Sunday, July 5, 2020, at Mt Hermon Baptist Church, 616 SE 4thAve, Mineral Wells, TX 76067. Face masks will be required at the service.

She will forever be known as a fighter, a survivor, a provider, a loving sister, and mother to her siblings, her children down to her great grandchildren. She survived The Great Depression and as a teenager took over motherly duties, after their mother’s untimely death. She survived and fought through the hatred and threats of lynching in Mississippi before fleeing north to Brooklyn, New York. Then after bearing and raising five adult children of her own, with two more preteens at her side, she moved to Mineral Wells, Texas to take care of her father, where she now finds her place of rest.

Left behind those to treasure her memories: sons, Jessie B. “Buddy” Mann of Richmond, CA, Jonathan Mann and William A. Mann and wife Maria of Brooklyn, NY and Shawn Reed and wife Lisa of Hurst; 21 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren, 17 great-great grandchildren, and a host of nephews and nieces. She also had countless special friends that became a big part of her life throughout the city of Mineral Wells.

Eva was preceded in death by her daughters, Estell “Baby Doll” Mann, Mary Lou Mann, and Carol Mitchell; her siblings, Dorothy Buchanan, James Williams Jr., Ruth Lewis, Edna Garrett, Howard Williams, and Herbert Williams.

The two most unforgettable things about Mrs. Reed, that we’ll miss the most is her smile that would warm up a room, and the distinctive giggle of a laugh that warranted repeating at every opportunity. You are loved and will be missed!
